Vidaković vacates post at United City FC

Manila: Risto Vidaković has announced that he will no longer continue in his role as head coach of Ceres Negros FC, now renamed United City FC.

Under Vidaković’s stewardship, Ceres won three consecutive Filipino top-flight titles between 2017 and 2019, were beaten in the 2018 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Final and came close to qualifying for the AFC Champions League group stage in 2019.

Despite the success, Vidaković revealed on Wednesday that his association with the club was at an end.

“I just want to inform the Filipino football fans and especially the supporters of Ceres Negros that I’m not going to be a part of the United City FC! Thank you Ceres for all this years of beautiful memories,” the 51-year-old said on his Twitter account.

News of Vidaković’s departure brought an immediate outpouring of emotion from Ceres players past and present, with current striker Bienvenido Marañón among those quick to pay tribute to the former Yugoslavia international.

“My best coach ever. I’m sure in the near future we will work together again! Thanks for make of [sic] me a better player and better person as well,” declared the Spaniard.

Vidaković’s departure comes as United City FC prepare for the start of a new domestic campaign.
