Group A: Nagoya advance in style, Vamos seal second spot

Yogyakarta: Nagoya Oceans advanced to the Knockout Stage of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 in style after defeating Vamos FC 4-0 to seal top spot in Group A on Sunday.

There was, however, cheer for Vamos despite the defeat as the home side also advanced into the quarter-finals on goal difference ahead of Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC of China PR.

In a lively atmosphere at the Gor Uny, Vamos supporters came in droves and made their presence felt as they urged the home team on against the three-time champions.

But it was Nagoya who had the first chance in the third minute when Kiyoto Yagi sent in a cross but Hoshi Shota failed to time his header.

Vamos responded immediately with Marvin Alexa Wossiry breaking down the right but his shot flew wide of the post.

A minute later Vamos activated the power play with Dennis Guna Bawana filling in for goalkeeper Al Fajri Zikri but their plan fizzled out as Nagoya stayed firm.

Nagoya pushed forward with Neto Antonio Hirata bulldozing his way in the middle only for a swarm of Vamos players to close in and clean up.

However, Nagoya were not to be denied and in the eighth minute, Hirata found the net after a mix up by Vamos while defending a corner.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser as Bawana broke free from his half but he wasted the opportunity when he fired his shot off target in the 12th minute.

Vamos came close with five minutes left in the half when Fachri Deriantama pounced on a loose ball on the left but he was denied by the post.

In the second half, Vamos came close to scoring again when captain Lubis, unmarked in the box, sent his header straight at Nagoya goalkeeper Yushi Sekiguchi who parried it for a corner.

Nagoya doubled their lead three minutes in, through Luiz Fernando Cardozo’s effort and Hirata made it 3-0 in the 26th minute after Cardozo delivered a perfect pass from the edge of the area.

Vamos, however, did not lose hope and tried hard to get back into the game but the lively Nagoya players made it difficult for the hosts.

Nagoya were rewarded with their fourth when Hashimoto Masaya found the net in the 32nd minute.

Four minutes later, Vamos pressed forward and Iqbal Aleifian forced Nagoya goalkeeper Sekiguchi into a save but the Japanese club stayed solid to secure the win.

Nagoya are set to face Group B runners-up Thai Son Nam next, while Vamos take on Nafit Al Wasat in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Vamos FC Head Coach Reza Falahzadeh:
"We tried very hard to score against Nagoya but we couldn't. It was very difficult. Congratulations to Nagoya, we wish them well. Maybe we can beat them the next time. This is the first time an Indonesian futsal team advanced into the Knockout Stage of the competition and it is a great feeling. My players don't have much experience but in the next match we will try harder. I would also like to say sorry to the Indonesian fans, we couldn't win today but we will improve in our next match."

Nagoya Oceans Head Coach Pedro Costa:
"We had at least 90 percent of ball possession and we didn't miss many shots. We tried to score two more but Vamos shut us down. So I think it's a fair result and we wish them well in the next round. We will do some scouting for out next match. We respect the other teams and our next goal is to reach the semi-finals. There was a good atmosphere in the stadium today and I hope the Vamos supporters will continue to cheer their team on in the next round."
