Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Bangkok: Japan’s Nagoya Oceans proved why they are one of the favourites in the AFC Futsal Club Championship Thailand 2019 after defeating Indonesia’s Vamos FC 3-1 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Nagoya Oceans will face Thai Son Nam in the semi-finals on Thursday and it will be a grudge match with the Vietnamese club having eliminated the Japanese side in the quarter-finals last year.

Vamos, however, started promisingly with Marvin Alexa Wossiry making an early foray but his attempt was blocked by Tomoki Yoshikawa and Ryosuke Nishitani.

The Indonesian side almost went ahead in the fifth minute through Dennis Guna Bawana’s long-range effort but Oceans’ goalkeeper Yushi Sekiguchi responded with a fine save.

Oceans gradually found their rhythm with Shota Hoshi testing Muhammad Nizar Nayaruddin in the 11th minute but the Vamos goalkeeper was quickly off his line to thwart the danger.

The Japanese side, however, were not to be denied and found the back of the net two minutes later through Pepita’s long range strike off Hoshi’s assist.

Vamos almost leveled the score immediately but captain Syahidansyah Lubis' effort was easily intercepted by Sekiguchi.

Oceans doubled their lead with less than a minute left in the half after Ryohei Ando found the unmarked Hirata in the box for a simple finish.

Vamos came out fighting in the second half but Syahidansyah’s charge down the left in the 21st minute was blocked by Sekiguchi as Oceans resumed control.

Oceans almost increased their advantage five minutes later through Pepita’s strike off a free-kick, but the Brazilian's effort was straight at Muhammad Nizar.

With less than five minutes on the clock, Vamos deployed the power play but their efforts were in vain as they conceded again in the 37th minute as Ando struck.

Vamos pulled one back with a minute left through Nandi Sumawijaya but there was no coming back as Oceans moved to within two matches of a historic fourth AFC Futsal Club Championship title.
