Bima seeks options as Indonesia ramp up preparations

Bekasi: Bima Sakti has included 12 new players as the Indonesia head coach prepares to finalise his squad for the AFC U-16 Championship Bahrain 2020.

Thirty players reported for the 20-day camp which ends on August 30, with Bima aiming to have options in several positions for the November 25-December 12 tournament.

“We still need options and alternatives in several positions,” said former Indonesia international Bima.

“The 12 new players called up have the opportunity to show their best, and we hope they can quickly adapt. We will see in a week whether they deserve to be part of the U-16 national team. It all depends on the players themselves.”

Dio Rizky Saputra is one of the 12 new players and the Bhayangkara FC starlet is aiming to make the final squad.

“I am grateful for the opportunity given by coach Bima to attend the training camp,” said central midfielder Saputra.

“Hopefully I can contribute, so that the team grows stronger and achieves much in the Championship.”

Indonesia, quarter-finalists in Malaysia 2018, are in Group D with defending champions Japan, Saudi Arabia and China PR.

The top four teams will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2021.
