After a goalless first half, midfielder Muhd Danisyh opened the scoring for the Southeast Asians - defeated 7-0 by China PR in their opener on Saturday - in the 49th minute and Mohammad Ikhmarol Izzat Omar's team grew in strength from there on.

Ak, who had come on at the start of the second half, doubled Brunei Darussalam's lead in the 60th minute and added his second 13 minutes later.

Forward Md Syaherrul Affendy made it 4-0 in Brunei Darussalam's favour in the 84th minute but Northern Mariana Islands, defeated 7-0 by the Philippines on Saturday, pulled one back through Kohtaro Goto in the 87th minute.

Philippines 0-4 Indonesia

Hosts Indonesia opened their campaign with a flourish, defeating Philippines to give themselves a fighting chance of qualifying for next year's Finals.

The defeat for the Philippines was a blow as it came just two days after they had emphatically defeated Northern Mariana Islands 7-0.

After a tight 35 minutes, Indonesia took the lead through forward Ahmad Athallah Araihan in the 37th minute.

That would prove to be a boost as they widened their lead just a minute into the second half, with midfielder Marselino Ferdinan finding the back of the net.

The three points were virtually sealed six minutes later when defender Alfin Farhan Lestaluhu made it 3-0 and substitute Wahyu Agong Drajat put the icing on the cake with his effort in the 78th minute.

Indonesia will be in action again on Wednesday against Northern Mariana Islands while Philippines will play China PR.
