Hanoi: Timor Leste turned on the power to defeat Macau 6-1 while Australia edged Mongolia 2-1 in Group H ties of the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers at the Vietnam YFTC Field in Hanoi on Monday.

Timor Leste, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to hosts Vietnam on Saturday, took control from the start and richly deserved the victory. Australia, meanwhile, got their campaign off to a positive start.

Forward Alexandro Bahkito Lemos gave them the lead in the eighth minute and defender Willian Quintas Vong's 39th minute effort ensured Timor Leste were in a comfortable position going into the break.

Lemos widened their lead further three minutes into the restart but Macau, edged 1-0 by Mongolia in their opening match on Saturday, were presented with a lifeline when Timor Leste midfielder Cristevao Fernandes turned the ball into his own net in the 55th minute.

There was to be no comeback for Macau though as defender Fernando de Carvalho (80th), forward Matias Guilherme Guterres (82nd) and forward Zenivio Conceicao Mota (89th) completed the resounding win.

Timor Leste are next in action on Friday when they play Australia, who Macau face on Wednesday.

The young Blue Wolves played with an injection of pace in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 65th minute through Shiiravjamts Damdindorj's effort but it was not enough to spur a comeback as Australia held on for the win.
