Mokpo: Korea Republic and Japan secured wins in Group A of the EAFF U-15 Girls' Football Festival 2019, while Hong Kong sailed past Mongolia for an early lead in Group B, with Northern Mariana Islands and Guam playing to a draw on Monday.
Group A: Korea Republic 3-2 Chinese Taipei
Jeon Yu-gyeong was the star in Korea Republic's 3-2 win over Chinese Taipei.
Park Min-ji opened the scoring with her 15th minute effort, before Jeon doubled their lead eight minutes later.
However, Chinese Taipei reduced their deficit through Li Yu-Syuan's 26th minute goal and Chou Chieh-Ni levelled the tie two minutes into the second half - in the 37th minute.
Jeon, however, had the final say when she fired home four minutes into added time to secure Korea Republic the three points.
Group A: Japan 4-0 China PR
Honoka Hamano was the star of the evening for Japan, scoring a hat-trick to assist the young Nadeshiko to a 4-0 win over China PR.
Hamano broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, before Nina Noguchi added a second in the 29th minute, but it was Hamano who had the last say in the first half with a 31st minute effort.
Seven minutes into the second half, she completed her hat-trick, and despite China PR halting the Japanese flow of goals, they failed to find the back of the net.
Group B: Hong Kong 7-0 Mongolia
Hong Kong produced a fantastic showing in their opening Group B fixture, beating Mongolia 7-0 at the Mokpo International Football Center Field 2.
Karri Chan Chung Man gave them the lead in the 12th minute, with Wei Lan etching her name on the scoresheet four minutes later, before Karri Chan scored her second of the evening.
Chloe Li Hau Yi made it 4-0 for Hong Kong six minutes before the end of the first half.
Despite the hefty lead, Hong Kong continued their search for goals, and Karri Chan completed her hat-trick in the 39th minute, with Natalie Lam Yue Yan adding another just 60 seconds later.
Karri Chan had a fantastic game, and she ended proceedings in the 45th minute with her fourth goal.
Group B: Northern Mariana Islands 1-1 Guam
The battle between these two East Asian teams was well balanced, with Northern Mariana Islands taking the lead a minute before the half-time break in the 34th minute through Andrei Kaithlyn Mago Chavez.
While Northern Mariana Islands dominated the second half, Guam never gave in to pressure and kept pushing for an equaliser, and were rewarded in the 57th minute with Jada Elise Gloria Han ensuring they shared the points.
