Preview - MD3 Group B: China PR vs Vietnam
Chonburi: China PR are on the verge of making their fifth consecutive AFC U-16 Women’s Championship semi-finals, but progress will depend on their final Group B match against Vietnam at the IPE Chonburi Stadium on Sunday.
China began their Thailand 2019 campaign brightly with a 2-0 win over 2017 finalists Korea Republic, and those three points are vital after the East Asians suffered a 4-0 defeat to defending champions DPR Korea on Matchday Two.

Chan Yuen Ting’s China now head into Matchday Three with immense pressure as they need three more points to secure passage to the last-four. A draw or loss would mean their fate depending on the outcome of the DPR Korea-Korea Republic match.
Debutants Vietnam mostly played defensively in their earlier matches but Chan is confident her team can unlock the Southeast Asian side and take their place in the semi-finals.
“The most important thing is that we need to get the three points. Looking at the Vietnam game against DPR (Korea), t wasn’t easy to score a lot of goals, because they played with a back five and had a lot of defenders around the ball.
“The coaches have done a lot of analysis on the Australia and Japan games already, so we will try to plan for the semi-final, but our first priority is that we need to get three points.”
Vietnam, who are no longer in contention for a place in the semi-finals after defeats to DPR Korea and Korea Republic, will be aiming to exit the tournament with their heads held high as Nguyen Quoc Binh’s side gained valuable experience playing against Asia’s best in their first appearance.
Coach Quoc Binh said his girls will be playing without any pressure, but admitted that heavy defeats have dampened team spirit.
“We have to encourage our players because this will be our last match,” say Quoc Binh.
“We are in a group with very strong teams, We will try better (for the next match).”
