Chonburi: Australia’s Princess Ibini was pleased after Australia defeated Thailand 3-1 in their AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 Group A tie on Wednesday.

Australia bounced back from their opening day defeat to DPR Korea to keep their hopes of landing their maiden title alive, with the victory putting them third in the standings behind Vietnam – beaten 3-0 by DPR Korea earlier in the day – on goal difference.

Ibini, who came on as a second half substitute against DPR Korea, was instrumental in the win over Thailand as she provided both assists for Mary Fowler’s first-half brace at the Chonburi Stadium.

"It was a very good win for our team, a very solid team performance overall. I'm really proud of the girls.” said the Sydney FC forward who is no stranger to the limelight after netting seven goals during the competition’s qualifiers.

Group B: Australia vs Thailand

The Young Matildas were 3-0 up before the hour mark after Courtney Nevin’s sizzler, and they subsequently held off a late Thailand fightback – courtesy of Pattaranan Aupacha’s header – to secure all three points.

"Yes, it was very tough to score against the hosts [Thailand]. They had a very big crowd but I'm really proud of the girls, we put in a good performance. We tried our best and managed to score some goals."

Next up for Leah Blayney’s charges are Vietnam, a match the Australians now need to win in order to seal their semi-final berth.

"We definitely must win the game against Vietnam. They are a good side, but we have plans that we're going to implement during the game, so hopefully we can do it," Ibini added.
