Japan ace Morita sets sights on claiming World Cup spot
Chonburi: Rising star Misaki Morita has revealed that Japan are fully focused on beating Australia in the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 semi-finals to claim a place at next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Nigeria.
The dynamic midfielder scored her side’s second goal in Sunday’s hard-fought 2-1 win over China PR, a result which saw reigning champions Japan claim pole position in Group B and sail into the competition’s last four on the back of three successive victories.

With the tournament’s top three finishers assured of a ticket to the U-20 Women’s World Cup, Morita has revealed that Japan are more determined than ever to seal their ticket to the global extravaganza – a competition which they won last time out in 2018.
“I will, of course, work towards scoring in the semi-finals, but our final goal is getting a ticket to the 2020 FIFA U-20 World Cup,” she said.
“All the players in the team have drive and passion as well as good communication skills. I believe these are key factors for a team to progress far in any competition, especially the 2020 FIFA U-20 World Cup.”
“We are undefeated in the last two editions of the AFC U-19 Women's Championship, so if all the players work together we can achieve the same success.
“In my opinion Australia have speedy and quality players, but as a team I think we can get the win and qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.”
