Kim Yun-ok hails DPR Korea unity after opening day win
Chonburi: DPR Korea forward Kim Yun-ok has hailed her team’s exceptional unity following their 5-1 win over Australia at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 on Sunday.
Despite falling behind to an early Kyra Cooney-cross header, former title winners DPR Korea recovered superbly to take a 2-1 lead going into the break.
Song Sung-gwon’s charges never looked back after that, adding three more goals in the second period to claim an emphatic victory and, with it, top spot in Group A.

“We played very well in our first match and we executed the tactics we had very well against Australia,” said Kim, who scored DPR Korea’s final goal.
“Everyone in the team was united and we stuck to our task. That is the reason we won the match today.”
DPR Korea dominated throughout against an Australia side who suffered their second successive AFC U-19 Women’s Championship defeat to the East Asians after losing 3-0 to them in the 2017 semi-finals.
With games against Vietnam and host nation Thailand still to come, Kim was also quick to attribute DPR Korea’s success to her teammates’ work ethic.
“Actually, the match (against Australia) was not very difficult for me.
“It went well because the combination between the players in terms of passing was very good, and because of that the result fell in our favour.”
DPR Korea lead the Group A standings ahead of second-placed Vietnam, who they will face on Wednesday, by virtue of a better goal difference.
