Vietnam hit double figures in blistering Jordan 2018 warm-up

Monchengladbach: With one week remaining until the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018, Vietnam ensured they will arrive in Jordan in a confident mood with an 11-goal rampage in their final pre-tournament friendly in Germany.

Striker Huynh scored a hat-trick, while Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung, Nguyen Thi Muon, Thai Thi Thao and Pham Hoang Quynh scored two each in 11-0 win against a side representing second-tier outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Originally scheduled to meet Frauen Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Mai Duc Chung’s team were forced to switch opponents at short notice, and made light work of the Germans to record their biggest win since beating Syria by the same margin in Jordan 2018 qualifying last April.

The goal-fest followed a more competitive test earlier in the week when Vietnam drew 1-1 with a selection from superclub FC Bayern Munich.

It was the prolific Huynh who gave the visitors a 40th minute lead in that match, before Bayern – who fielded a combination of reserve and youth team players – equalised in the 78th minute with a Celina Constantini penalty.

Both matches drew warm support from Germany’s Vietnamese community, who provided their women’s national team stars with encouragement ahead of their AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign, which begins on April 7 against reigning champions Japan.
