Incheon Hyundai Red Steel Angels make it seven titles in a row

Incheon: Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels have secured another WK League Championship, claiming the title after defeating Suwon UDC 1-0 on aggregate in the 2019 final, completed on Monday.

Brazilian forward Thais Guedes scored the decisive goal 71 minutes into the second leg, steering Incheon to glory from close range after the first leg had finished goalless last Thursday.

Incheon’s title is their seventh league crown in succession, continuing a stunning run of success which began in 2013, with the club also finishing on top of the table at the end of the regular season in all seven of their championship-winning years.

Thais Guedes’ winning goal was well and truly made in Brazil, with the strike coming following an exemplary run and cross from countrywoman Beatriz Zaneratto, who returned to play the decider having scored twice for Brazil against Canada in Chongqing last Thursday.

The tension of the play-off final was a far cry from the regular season, where Incheon dominated the competition to finish 27 points clear of their nearest challengers, racking up 24 wins and piling on 82 goals in 28 matches.

Next on the agenda for the Korean champions is the chance to establish themselves as the leading side in Asia, something they will have the chance to do for the first time when Korea Republic hosts the inaugural AFC Women’s Club Championship later this month.

Incheon will begin their campaign against Australian W-League Premiers Melbourne Victory on November 26, before facing NTV Beleza of Japan and Chinese champions Jiangsu Suning Ladies Football Club on November 28 and 30 respectively.
