Uzbekistan denied as RFU score second FIFA Futsal World Cup win

Vilnius: Uzbekistan fell to their second successive defeat as Russia Football Union registered a 4-2 win in Group B of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 on Wednesday.

The loss was a blow to Uzbekistan's hopes of advancing to the knockout stage with the Central Asians having suffered a 5-4 defeat to Guatemala in their opening match on Sunday. They face Egypt in their final tie on Saturday.

Uzbekistan, aiming to bounce back from their 5-4 opening match loss to Guatemala, started brightly but it was RFU who had the first look at goal through Ivan Chishkala at the Vlinius Arena.

Despite a handful of chances for Uzbekistan, RFU opened the scoring through Robinho in the 10th minute, with Artem Niiazov doubling their lead just seconds later.

Undeterred, Dilshod Rakhmatov led Uzbekistan’s charge in their bid to get back into the match but RFU controlled the pace of the game to take their two-goal lead into the break.

That changed in the second half as Uzbekistan hit the ground running with Davron Choriev finding the back of the net just moments into the restart, before Mashrab Adilov equalised in the 28th minute.

RFU, however, changed gears and Niiazov scored back-to-back goals in the 35th minute to regain the initiative for the European side.

Uzbekistan tried to find their way back into the tie but RFU defended stoutly to make it two wins out of two to all but book their place in the next stage.
