FIFA monitoring COVID-19 situation as Finals loom


New Delhi: FIFA is monitoring the COVID-19 situation in India, which is preparing to host the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in November.

A FIFA spokesman said the world body is liasing closely with the Local Organising Committee.

With the pandemic stretching across the world, the Qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup have also been postponed along with numerous other sporting events.

"FIFA is currently monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19 in India in close collaboration with the Local Organising Committee (LOC), as well as other key stakeholders including the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and relevant authorities in the country," a FIFA spokesperson said.

While Asia's representatives have already been decided, four of the remaining five confederations have yet to conclude theirs.

Japan and DPR Korea will join hosts India as Asia's representatives in the tournament.
