Who is Qin Liang?
Qin Liang is no stranger to football. The experienced referee began officiating at the international level in 2011 and has overseen numerous AFC tournaments. Qin Liang earned her first break taking charge of the Women's Olympic Football Tournament qualifier in 2011 between Thailand and Myanmar.
Has she officiated at the FIFA World Cup before?
Qin Liang will be making her second appearance in the World Cup. At the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Qin refereed key ties between France and Colombia and France's 5-0 win over Mexico. She also officiated at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada and at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.
What does she have to say about her appointment?
“I feel excited but at the same time a little bit of pressure. This is my second FIFA Women’s World Cup and I have more experience but it is understandable if you feel pressure because this is a big event.
“During my first FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015, I felt that we did a good job but there was room for improvement. I hope this time we can have a better performance."
How does a top referee adapt to changes in the way the game is played?
“I’ve trained, studied and officiated in a lot of matches. This time, it will be different because we’ve been in a lot of seminars to prepare us for VAR.
“I’m comfortable with the inclusion of VAR because it is very useful and it can help us in difficult situations. But we are also very confident in our own abilities to officiate in matches.”
