Asia's Greatest FIFA World Cup Goal - Saeed Al Owairan (KSA)


Kuala Lumpur: Saeed Al Owairan's brilliant effort for Saudi Arabia against Belgium in the 1994 edition has been voted as the greatest Asian goal at the FIFA World Cup.

Owairan's superb effort was picked as the best from a list of 20 goals the-AFC.com shortlisted in polls which were conducted over the last three weeks.

Indeed, Owairan's effort was labelled the ‘greatest goal of the tournament’ by match commentator John Helm.

Saudi Arabia, having lost 2-1 to Netherlands in their opening match and then beating Morocco 2-1, went into their final Group F tie needing to beat Belgium to advance to the Round of 16 in their inaugural appearance in the FIFA World Cup Finals.

Owairan rose to the occasion as his mazy run left several Belgians trailing in his wake as he scored one of the FIFA World Cup's best ever goals.
