Kuwait's Jozak: Australia tie is what matters now

Kuwait: Head coach Romeo Jozak said Kuwait's focus is firmly on Australia following their resounding 7-0 win over Nepal in their opening Asian Qualifiers Group B tie last Thursday.

The West Asians played scintillating football against Nepal and Jozak said the players had been given some time off to celebrate the triumph, which was a perfect boost to Kuwait's hopes of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

However, with Australia looming on Tuesday, Croatian Jozak said his players have already shifted their focus to the tie against the 2015 AFC Asian Cup winners.

“We gave the players some time off to celebrate the big victory against Nepal, which was a nice win of course,” said Jozak.

“I knew that we could have a great performance against Nepal,” he added. “This was a great message that Kuwaiti football has a lot of capabilities."

Australia, however, will be a different test and Jozak said he will make changes to Kuwait's formation and approach.

“We are now concentrating on the match against Australia,” said the former Legia Warsaw coach. “The big win against Nepal was great but our tactics and style of play will be different in the match on Tuesday.”

Captain Bader Al Mutawa said Kuwait are ready for Australia.

“All the players are now concentrating on the important match against Australia,” said Al Mutawa, who scored Kuwait's fifth goal against Nepal.

“There was a lot of support following the win against Nepal and we hope that we can continue our good performances for the fans,” added the 34-year-old forward.
