MD2 - Group E: Afghanistan 1-0 Bangladesh
Dushanbe: Farshad Noor's first half strike proved to be enough for Afghanistan to claim a 1-0 win over Bangladesh in Group E of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Tuesday.
The win was a perfect response from an Afghanistan side that had lost 6-0 to Qatar on Matchday One.
Anoush Dastgir’s side kept Bangladesh pressed in defence and took the lead in the 27th minute with Omid Popalzay sending a cross into the box which Noor headed home to break the deadlock.

James Day’s Bangladesh grew in confidence in the second half but could hardly find a way into the final third as Afghanistan were quick to close them down.
As the game entered its final 15 minutes, Bangladesh began pushing forward with more purpose and came close two minutes into added time.
The action began with a long-range free-kick into the box, which the Afghanistan defenders cleared only for the ball to land at the feet of substitute Mahbubur Rahman.
The defender laid the ball for Yeasin Khan, who supplied Nabib Zabin with a back-heel pass but before he could unleash his shot, Afghanistan’s Abdul Najem Haidary produced a fine tackle for his team to claim the points.
Afghanistan will hope to continue their fine form against Oman on October 10, while Bangladesh go up against Asian champions Qatar at home.
