MD2 Preview - Group D: Singapore vs Palestine; Yemen vs Saudi Arabia

Kuala Lumpur: Asian giants Saudi Arabia will enter the Asian Qualifiers action while Palestine will be eyeing a second successive win in Group B on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia begin their road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 against Yemen while Palestine, basking in the glory of having stunned Uzbekistan on Matchday One, have travelled to Singapore.

Singapore will be braced for a highly motivated Palestine, who were the best performers of Matchday One after they shocked Uzbekistan 2-0.

It was a win that was greeted with joy and head coach Nouredinne Ould Ali has challenged his players to keep the momentum going.

“I told the players that we should forget what happened against Uzbekistan and we should start preparing for the match against Singapore,” said Ould Ali.

Palestine are bidding for a third successive appearance at the AFC Asian Cup Finals and, possibly, a tilt at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualification, and Ould Ali knows his team - with Saudi Arabia also in the group - have to pick up as many points as possible from their other Group D challengers.

Singapore, however, will also be looking at taking all three points against Palestine after having settled for a 2-2 draw with Yemen on Thursday.

In a match which Singapore took the lead only for Yemen to surge ahead 2-1, the Southeast Asians did well to come back for a point but head coach Tatsuma Yoshida will be stressing to his players on the importance of winning their home matches.

Venue: Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore

Yemen can expect a stiff test when they go up against Saudi Arabia at the Bahrain National Stadium as the Continental giants target a winning start in their bid to qualify for yet another FIFA World Cup Finals.

Herve Renard is now the head coach but Saudi Arabia's target remains the same and they will not hold back in this meeting between two West Asian rivals.

Saudi Arabia did not enjoy a successful AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, with their campaign ending in the Round of 16, but Renard has the experience and success they need to advance to the next stage of the Asian Qualifiers.

Yemen, however, are also seeking a second successive appearance at the AFC Asian Cup, and they are not going to be intimidated by Saudi Arabia.

Venue: Bahrain National Stadium, Riffa
Kick-off: 19:00 (UTC +3)
