MD4 - Group G: Indonesia 1-3 Vietnam

Bali: Vietnam recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Indonesia in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium on Tuesday.

The win gave Vietnam seven points from three matches as they lie second in Group G behind leaders Thailand, who are ahead on goal difference.

Indonesia, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the group with no points following consecutive defeats to Malaysia, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.

Vietnam had an early look at goal in the ninth minute when Doan Van Hau fired his long-range effort wide off the mark.

Van Hau, who plys his trade with Dutch outfit SC Heerenveen, was in the thick of action again in the 26th minute when an intelligent header off a corner found Do Duy Manh inside the the box, who finished with a simple tap in.

Indonesia struggled to make significant strides in the game as Vietnam had another go at goal two minutes before the interval but Nguyen Tien Linh's effort from inside the danger area failed to find the target.

Vietnam increased the intensity of their attacks after the break and were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute when Do Hung Dung was brought down by Yanto Basna.

Captain Que Ngoc Hai made no mistake from the spot as he sent Indonesia goalkeeper Muhammad Ridho the wrong way to give Vietnam a 2-0 lead.

There was more agony for Indonesia as they fell further behind when Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Linh found the back of the net in the 61st minute.

The home side, however, pulled one back in the 84th minute through Irfan Bachdim’s strike from inside the area but it proved to be mere consolation.
