#AWCL trailblazers Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC applauded by Shaikh Salman

Wuhan: As the inaugural revamped Continental club season drew to a close, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC on clinching the first-ever AFC Women's Champions League™ crown with the Chinese side defeating Melbourne City FC 5-4 on penalties after the final ended 1-1 at the Wuhan Sports Centre Stadium on Saturday.

Youngster Shelby McMahon netted the opener for Melbourne but a Wang Shuang stoppage time penalty sent the match into extra time and eventually a shootout with goalkeeper Chen Chen emerging the hero with two saves.

Wuhan: China PR’s Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC clinched the inaugural AFC Women's Champions League™ title in dramatic fashion, defeating Melbourne City FC of Australia 5-4 in a sudden death penalty shootout after the final ended 1-1 at the end 120 minutes on Saturday.

Youngster Shelby McMahon put Melbourne ahead but a Wang Shuang stoppage time penalty sent the match into extra time and eventually the shootout with goalkeeper Chen Chen emerging Wuhan Jiangda's star with two saves. 

The win meant Wuhan Jiangda also sealed their place in the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2026.

Japan’s Koizumi to lead referees’ team at historic #AWCL Final

Wuhan: As the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 approaches its final match, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed the officials for the historic tie between Melbourne FC and Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC on Saturday.

The Final, which will decide the first-ever champions of Asia’s premier women’s club competition, will be overseen by Asaka Koizumi of Japan, who was earlier part of the roster for Melbourne FC’s Semi-final tie against Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s FC and the latter’s Quarter-final clash against Bam Khatoon FC.
