AFC Grassroots Football Day Message by the AFC President
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) celebrates Grassroots Football Day annually on May 15 but this year, we have more reasons to commemorate the occasion as more territories across Asia resume their grassroots activities in efforts to spread joy and cheer.
The AFC remains committed towards promoting football to an even wider audience but even as we celebrate this year’s events and activities, I request that the highest health and safety standards are put in place in all your grassroots programmes.
Shaikh Salman extends condolences on the passing of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has extended his condolences on the passing of the United Arab Emirates President, His Highness (HH) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who passed away on Friday.
Shaikh Salman expressed his great sadness, remembering the monumental efforts and contributions undertaken by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in transforming the economic and social development of the UAE and for his steadfast dedication towards philanthropic causes and empowering communities across the Emirates.
Kuala Lumpur: Following extensive discussions with the Chinese Football Association (CFA), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has been officially informed by the CFA that it would not be able to host the AFC Asian Cup 2023™.
China PR were appointed as hosts of the AFC Asian Cup 2023™ on June 5, 2019, at the AFC Extraordinary Congress in Paris. The 24-team competition was to be hosted across 10 Chinese cities from June 16 to July 16, 2023.
VAR set for AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022™ and AFC Champions League 2022™ Knockout Stage
Kuala Lumpur: The AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022™ will utilise the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in all 32 matches for the second straight edition when the showpiece takes place from June 1 to 19.
The AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020™ successfully implemented the VAR in all matches and it will continue to be adopted in four venues in Uzbekistan, the first time the tournament is staged in Central Asia.
