Ramallah: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has been honoured with the Jerusalem Star Decoration from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, for his efforts in leading the sport and his support for Palestinian football.
The AFC President arrived in Palestine on Monday morning, where he had an official reception in Jericho together with Palestine FA President General Jibril Rajoub and sports leaders and officials.
Shaikh Salman hailed the progress of Palestinian football in recent years, saying the national team's progress in the FIFA Ranking is due to the efforts to raise the level of the game in the country.
Speaking at a press conference at the Palestine FA headquarters, Shaikh Salman assured that AFC will continue to provide full support to Palestine FA through various development projects, including helping raise the level of the various national teams, coaches and referees.
Shaikh Salman stressed that AFC will continue to support Palestinian rights to practice football, and free movement of players, as per FIFA regulations.
Palestine FA President General Jibril Rajoub said Shaikh Salman's visit reflected his support for Palestinian football, and his efforts to communicate with the sport's stakeholders to develop the game on the continent.
