Shaikh Salman congratulates Korea Republic for clinching Thailand 2020 title
Bangkok: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Korea Republic for winning their first-ever AFC U23 Championship crown after the East Asians clinched a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over Saudi Arabia in a captivating final at the Rajamangala Stadium on Sunday.
The AFC President said: “On behalf of the Asian football family, I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Korea Republic for securing their maiden AFC U23 Championship title and for showcasing incredible drive, teamwork and skill throughout the competition. We must also praise Saudi Arabia for their hard work and resilience in a riveting final.
Rotational policy reason for Korea Republic's triumph, says Kim
Bangkok: Korea Republic’s rotation policy was the secret to the country’s success at the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 claimed head coach Kim Hak-bum after seeing his team hand Saudi Arabia a 1-0 defeat in extra-time to win the title for the first time.
Defender Jeong Tae-wook scored the only goal of the game seven minutes from the end of the second period of extra-time to give the Koreans the title for the first time in their history as coach Kim added this crown to the gold medal won at the Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018.
My best achievement, says Korea Republic match winner Jeong
Bangkok: Jeong Tae-wook has described scoring the winning goal for Korea Republic to lift their first-ever AFC U23 Championship title as the best achievement of his young career.
After a goalless 90-minute stalemate meant extra time, it seemed penalties would be needed to decide the final until Jeong rose the highest to head home Lee Dong-gyeong’s curling free-kick in the 113th minute at the Rajamangala Stadium on Sunday.
Alshehri predicts a bright future for Saudi Arabia’s rising stars
Bangkok: Head coach Saad Alshehri believes Saudi Arabia has a distinctly bright footballing future after watching his young charges lose 1-0 to Korea Republic in Sunday’s AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 final.
Jeong Tae-wook’s towering 113th minute header helped the Koreans seal their first-ever Continental crown at this level, a goal which left Saudi Arabia to reflect, instead, on their successful qualification for this year’s Olympic Games.
Final: Jeong Tae-wook header seals Korea Republic title
Bangkok: Korea Republic claimed the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 title on Saturday thanks to a dramatic 1-0 extra-time win over Saudi Arabia.
Jeong Tae-wook’s goal in the 113th minute of a closely-fought encounter helped Korea Republic seal their first-ever Continental crown at this level, one which comes four years after they dramatically lost to Japan in the final of the competition’s 2016 edition.
For Saudi Arabia, however, the result brought late heartbreak following a campaign in which they had excelled en route to their disappointing defeat at the hands of their East Asian counterparts.
