Shaikh Salman meets FFSL President

Manama: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa met with Jaswar Umar, the President of Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) on Tuesday.

The AFC President congratulated the FFSL President on his recent election, stressing  the AFC’s commitment to strengthen the unity and solidarity with its Member Associations in achieving the shared ambitions for the Asian football family.

Shaikh Salman added that the AFC was only as strong as its MAs and the steadfast partnership continued to be underlined through the implementation of the AFC’s development programmes.

"We are keen to continue our meetings with our Member Associations, to present the AFC’s recent achievements, and our future plans, in addition to listening to the suggestions and feedback of our members, to enrich the work in the Confederation," he said.

Shaikh Salman congratulates new BFA board members

Manama: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has met with and congratulated the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) President H.E. Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and the newly elected board members at the BFA headquarters on Tuesday. 

The AFC President expressed his confidence that the members would lead football in the West Asian country to new heights.

Shaikh Salman meets with Lebanon Football Association President

Manama: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa met with Lebanon Football Association (LFA) President Hachem Haidar to discuss the progress and development of football in the West Asian country on Monday.

Shaikh Salman welcomed Haidar during his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain with LFA General Secretary Jihad El Chohof and hailed the progress of Lebanon football, especially the national team, which successfully qualified for the Asian Qualifiers - Road to Qatar final round in addition to Al Ahed FC winning the AFC Cup 2019.

Shaikh Salman offers condolences on the passing of Jacques Rogge

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim has extended his condolences to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the family and friends of former IOC President Count Jacques Rogge who passed away at the age of 79.

Rogge served as the eighth IOC President from 2001 to 2013 before becoming an Honorary President.

Shaikh Salman condoles death of O. Chandrasekharan

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has offered his condolences to the family and friends of former Indian national and Olympian O. Chandrasekharan who passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday. 

Chandrasekharan represented India at the 1960 Rome Olympics where, as a defender, he helped his country to a famous 1-1 draw against France. His death comes a few days after the passing of his teammate Syed Shahid Hakim.

Shaikh Salman praises Asia’s outstanding teams and officials in Tokyo Olympics

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has praised Asia’s teams and officials after both Australia and Japan finished fourth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic women’s and men’s football tournaments respectively.

The Continent’s match officials also performed remarkably after AFC referees – Chris Beath and assistants Anton Shchetinin and George Lakrindis from Australia – were selected to officiate the gold medal Final between Brazil and Spain later today.
