Manama: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino who was making his first official visit to Bahrain since taking office in February.
Shaikh Salman welcomed Infantino to the Bahraini capital of Manama, and congratulated the FIFA President for his continued efforts to communicate with all of international football’s stakeholders.
During the meeting, the two parties also discussed the ongoing cooperation between the AFC and FIFA, as well as ways to strengthen the already excellent relations between the governing bodies in order to achieve shared objectives, support Member Associations and continue the reforming of football.
Shaikh Salman also detailed the AFC’s future plans via its recently launched Vision and Mission, an approach which reflects, he noted, the AFC’s commitment to the development of the game throughout Asia.
The AFC President also explained that, through the implementation of the Vision and Mission, the AFC is striving to become the world’s leading Confederation, ease the pathway for Asian teams to compete regularly at the major international competitions and to raise the popularity of football in Asia so that it becomes the region’s number one sport.
Shaikh Salman also reiterated his support for FIFA reforms, and the need, as well as the unity of the world’s footballing family, to rebuild a FIFA based on transparency and efficiency so as to benefit the world game as a whole.
Infantino, while stressing the need for mutual cooperation in order to better serve football on a global basis, thanked Shaikh Salman for the warm welcome he received, and hailed the AFC President’s efforts while leading the AFC.
