Muscat: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa congratulated the newly elected board of the Oman Football Association (Oman FA) for winning the trust of the congress, adding further that he was confident the new board will build on the strong foundations of Oman football to achieve even greater success in the future.
Shaikh Salman stressed that Oman has strong presence in Asian football, particularly with its success in the numerous AFC competitions, and he confirmed that the AFC will support the new board to achieve the ambitions of Oman football and its stakeholders.
The AFC President arrived in Omani capital, Muscat, on Monday, where he was welcomed by Oman FA President Sheikh Salem Al Woheibi, and Sheikh Rashed Al Hanaai, Deputy Sports Minister (General Secretary for the Ministry) and other officials from Oman FA.
The newly elected Oman FA President also hosted the AFC President in an official dinner, which was also attended by HRH Taimur Bin Asaad Bin Tareq, Minister of Sports Sheikh Saad Bin Muhammed Al Saadi and Oman Olympic Committee President Sheikh Khaled Bin Muhammed Al Zubair.
Shaikh Salman expressed his gratitude to the Oman FA for the warm reception and hospitality, and conveyed his appreciation for the attendance of sports leaders in the Sultanate.
In the same spirit, Oman FA President Sheikh Salem Bin Saeed Al Woheibi, welcomed the AFC President to Oman, adding that the visit reflected Shaikh Salman and the AFC’s commitment to ensure stronger collaborations with Member Associations and unity within the Asian football family.
AFC President Shaikh Salman concluded his visit with a press conference on Tuesday at the Oman FA headquarters, in the presence of Oman FA President Sheikh Salem Al Weheibi.
Shaikh Salman reiterated that the recent decision made at the AFC Congress was indeed a testament to the principles of unity and solidarity of the Asian football family, adding further that such principles represented the fabric of Asian football, which can never be compromised.
The AFC President also stressed the continental football body's commitment, under the banner of One Asia, One Goal, to work closely alongside Member Associations to develop football at all levels through customised solutions.
