Stage set for AFC Extraordinary Congress 2023

Kuala Lumpur: The members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s judicial bodies for the 2023 to 2027 term will be confirmed on Wednesday when the Confederation’s Member Associations (MAs) convene virtually for the AFC Extraordinary Congress 2023. 

In accordance with Article 22(e) of the AFC Statutes – Edition 2023, the AFC Congress will elect the Chairpersons, Deputy Chairpersons and Members of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, the AFC Appeal Committee and the AFC Entry Control Body upon the proposal of the AFC Executive Committee.

Beginning with their second AFC Asian Cup™ title at Lebanon 2000 and culminating in Qatar 2011 with their fourth, and including two FIFA World Cup Round of 16 finishes, Japan enjoyed a period of dominance and records that few have accomplished before and since.
 
While their three AFC Asian Cup championships from four tournaments is the physical evidence of their success, Japan also achieved record finishes at the FIFA Confederations Cup (runners-up) and the Asian Games (gold), while their efforts in the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games were also, at the time, new milestones for the national side.

AFC Coach Education Online session concludes successfully

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment in raising the capabilities of its Member Associations (MAs) was once again underlined at the recent AFC Coach Education Online session. 

The virtual workshop saw 80 participants from 28 Member Associations come together to discuss the various ways by which coaches in Asia can be equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to ensure the steadfast development of coach educators.

Buoyant Feichtenbeiner looks ahead; Oliveira remains optimistic

Yangon: Head coach Michael Feichtenbeiner is already planning ahead following Myanmar’s 5-1 win over Macau in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

With the score tied at 1-1, Myanmar needed a second half intervention to fend off a battling Macau with Lwin Moe Aung leading the charge with a brace.

Shin targets improvement despite big victory

Jakarta: Indonesia will take a 6-0 lead into the second leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ tie against Brunei Darussalam but Shin Tae-yong wasn’t fully impressed.

After racing to a two-goal lead in the opening 12 minutes, Indonesia were forced to wait until the 58th minute before getting their third, and head coach Shin saw this as one improvement his side need.

Re-elected AFC President Shaikh Salman lauds Asian unity

Manama: The 33rd Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress held in Manama, Bahrain, on Wednesday, has re-elected Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who was the sole candidate, as the Confederation’s President by acclamation for a third four-year term until 2027. 

Shaikh Salman, who took over as the 10th AFC President in 2013, was re-elected unopposed as the AFC President and FIFA Vice-President in 2015, before being appointed as the FIFA Senior Vice-President in 2018. In 2019, the Bahraini was re-elected once again unopposed to both positions for a four-year term.

AFC Executive Committee and Asia’s FIFA Council members confirmed

Manama: The 33rd Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress concluded on Wednesday in Manama, Bahrain, with the AFC’s Member Associations electing a new-look AFC Executive Committee for the term 2023 to 2027.

The AFC’s six representatives who will serve on the FIFA Council for the next four years were also confirmed. Together with the AFC President, Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who is also the FIFA Senior Vice President, the AFC will have seven members on the FIFA Council.
 
Meanwhile, new elections for the positions, which remained vacant after this Congress, will be held at a later date.
