AFC Club Licensing Task Force outlines roadmap for upcoming AFC Club Licensing cycle

Kuala Lumpur: Following the AFC Executive Committee’s strategic enhancements to the AFC Club Competitions last month, the AFC Club Licensing Task Force has today discussed key changes and the revised timeline to the AFC Club Licensing implementation process at its third meeting held virtually.

In his opening address, AFC Club Licensing Task Force Chairperson Hamad Mohamed Aljneibi recognised the undeniable role of club licensing in raising the professional standards across the Asian football landscape, whilst underlining the importance of raising the quality of compliance among the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs), particularly as the Confederation marked a decade-long journey in club licensing.

Manila: The Philippines recently qualified for their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup™, and this historic achievement was at least partly indebted to two American-born sisters. 

The younger McDaniel sibling, 24-year-old Chandler, proved to be a potent attacking weapon for the Philippines during last September's 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. 

First, she provided two assists as Alen Stajcic's side came from behind to beat Nepal 2-1 and then, against Hong Kong, she went one better by scoring the match-winning goal that sent her team through.

Sydney: Sydney FC coach Steve Corica is relishing his side’s return to the Group Stages of the AFC Champions League next month after the five-time A-League champions brushed aside Kaya FC Iloilo to book their place in Group H of this year’s competition.

Trent Buhagiar opened the scoring for the Australians before a brace each for Brazilian striker Bob and English substitute Adam Le Fondre gave Sydney a comfortable 5-0 win in challenging conditions in a stormy Sydney.

Sydney FC cruise past Kaya FC to book group stage berth

Sydney: Sydney FC moved into the Group Stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League on Tuesday as Trent Buhagiar’s first half opener was followed by braces for both Bobo and Adam Le Fondre as Steve Corica’s team claimed a 5-0 win over Kaya FC Iloilo from the Philippines at Kogarah Oval.

The A-League side progress into Group H of the continental championship, where they will take on two-time champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors from Korea Republic, Japan’s Yokohama F Marinos and Vietnamese hosts Hoang Anh Gia Lai in Ho Chi Minh City next month.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that Iraq will host their upcoming AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar™ Group A tie against the United Arab Emirates on March 24, 2022, at the Al-Madina International Stadium in Baghdad City.

The decision, which was confirmed by FIFA, will see Iraq play their first AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar™ on home soil since the start of the campaign.

Hanoi: When Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy scored the most important goal in Vietnamese women’s football history in January, she knew she’d finally fulfilled the dream of an entire nation – including her late father.

It was in a showdown for a place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™. 

Chinese Taipei needed just a draw to go through. Vietnam required a win to reach, at the sixth attempt, the finals for the first time. With the game poised at 1-1, substitute Nguyen snatched victory for The Golden Girls.
