AFC Medical Officers Workshop: New innovative approach and clinical skills towards safety of players #AsianCup2023

Doha: In anticipation of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) organised the AFC Medical Officers Workshop, with lectures, hands-on training and interactive sessions ensuring medical care of the highest standards across all venues during the competition. 

Prior to these workshops, several seminars were held virtually in 2023 as part of the continuous development programme in preparation for Asia’s crown jewel, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

Yoshimi Yamashita to become first woman referee in AFC Asian Cup™ history

Doha: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed today that Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita will take charge of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ fixture between Australia and India on 13 January 2024 (Saturday) – a landmark appointment that will make her the first woman ever to referee a match in the flagship tournament.

It is the latest feather in the cap of pioneering Yamashita, who is one of five trailblazing female match officials to be involved in the 18th edition of Asia’s crown jewel in Qatar. She will be ably supported in the Group B encounter at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium by assistant referees Makoto Bozono and Naomi Teshirogi – an iconic Japanese trio who made history as the first women officials to oversee matches in the AFC Cup™ (2019), AFC Champions League™ (2022) and J1 League (2023).

Kuala Lumpur: With less than a month to go to the inaugural edition of the AFC eAsian Cup 2023, the 20 participating teams are raring to etch their names in the history books as they prepare to lock horns from February 1 to 5, 2024 in Qatar’s picturesque capital city, Doha.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s resolve to strengthen its position as a model Confederation in developing world-class match officials was further underlined today with the launch of the Refereeing Online Platform, in conjunction with the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

The latest milestone initiative equips Referee Assessors with a diverse array of tools, paving the way for a holistic enhancement of officiating standards in Asian football, whilst serving as a centralised platform for assessors to complete and submit their Referee Assessment Reports to ensure the highest professional standards.

OCAC Chairperson praises readiness of #AsianCup2023 venues

Doha: The Organising Committee of AFC Asian Cup (OCAC) Chairperson Mariano V. Araneta Jr. has today hailed the readiness of the world-class venues ahead of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ opener between defending champions Qatar and Lebanon at the Lusail Stadium on Friday. 

Speaking at an onsite inspection visit at the spectacular 88,000-capacity Lusail Stadium, which will also set the stage for the Final on 10 February, OCAC Chairperson Mariano V. Araneta Jr. said: “Few venues in world football are as iconic as the Lusail Stadium and I am confident that the players, teams and fans will witness an exceptional celebration that will set the tone for the entire duration of the competition.
