Kuala Lumpur: The AFC has requested all its Member Associations to appoint an Integrity Officer who will act as a single point of contact between them and the AFC Integrity Department.
The AFC is focused on upholding the core values of football such as Fair Play, achievement by merit and the uncertainty of the outcome of matches and competitions.
Match fixing is a dangerous threat to the game, therefore, the AFC along with its Member Associations (MAs) strive to protect the integrity of its competitions and enhance good governance across football in the region.
Towards this end, a recently devised AFC Integrity Action Plan, which was attached with a letter sent to the MAs on May 12, 2014, among other things, recommends the establishment of a network of Integrity Officers at the MA level to act as single points of contact for the AFC Integrity Department.
“The main responsibilities of the Integrity Officer are to establish and maintain integrity initiatives within the MA, receive information related to match fixing matters within the MA and conduct inquiries or investigations as an administrative ‘fact finder’ in coordination with AFC and relevant national law enforcement agencies,” said AFC Director of MAs and Development Sanjeevan Balasingam.
The AFC’s own Integrity Officer, Hassan Haider Khan, will work alongside his national counterparts to support the operation of the network as well as oversee intelligence gathering and exchange of information and experience, all with the aim of tackling the threat of match-fixing in an efficient, coordinated and professional manner.
The MAs have been requested to update the AFC of their Integrity Officer appointments by June 30, 2014.
