Bangkok: AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifying Group E side Vietnam were held to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup on Saturday.
Midfielder Le Tan Tai headed home Pham Thanh Luong's 34th minute free-kick to give Vietnam a 1-0 lead to take into the interval at a rain-soaked Rajamangala Stadium before Myanmar earned a share of the spoils through Kyi Lin's 53rd minute penalty, which was awarded after the Yangon United midfielder was brought down in the area by Nguyen Minh Duc.
"After they equalised we had a little trouble with our mentality and psychology. but these things happen," Vietnam's assistant coach Hoang Anh Tuan said.
"I am satisfied with a draw in the first game, not so bad. The conditions did not help our team.
"My target is to go the final. First game we draw no problem. We have two games left and we must prepare for the next game. I think my players played very well."
Vietnam begin their 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign on February 6 at home to the UAE.
