Sindhupalchowk: A new school building funded by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation and the AFC Member Associations was inaugurated in Sindhupalchowk, Northern Nepal on Saturday.
The region was hit by two devastating earthquakes in April and May, 2015, killing approximately 10,000 people, leaving more than 25,000 people injured, and irreparably damaging the original school building. The new school will offer a safe learning environment for 800 local children.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Chairman of the AFC’s Social Responsibility Committee Ahmed Eid S. Al Harbi said: “By rebuilding the Sri Sethi Dewi Sindhupalchowk school and involving the local people at all levels, the AFC wants to show that we are here for the community in Northern Nepal, and for vulnerable communities across all our Member Associations.
“Football can bring enormous joy and hope, a feeling of belonging, and it is the responsibility of the AFC as the governing body of the game in Asia to spread that positive influence among the people on our Continent who need it most.
“Thanks to the contributions made by several AFC Member Associations and the contribution and management by the AFC Dream Asia Foundation this school has not only been rebuilt but has regenerated the village.”
