Kota Kinabalu: Nineteen schoolteachers have started their basic futsal coaching course in the Malaysian state of Sabah.
The AFC Futsal Level 1 Coaching Course from December 2 to 7 is the 11th such course in Malaysia since 2013, and is co-organised by the Education Department of Sabah and the Sabah FA Futsal Department.
The majority of the participants are already actively involved in football and futsal coaching, and the course is aimed at educating and developing potential futsal players in the state via the medium of proper futsal information.
Sabah Director of Education Datuk Jame Alip, Sabah Football Association’s Executive Secretary Hasbullah Yahya and Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Secretary Mohd Asyraaf Abdullah were present during the opening ceremony.
“I am pleased to see the AFC futsal coaching course being successfully organised for teachers involved in the futsal game,” said Alip, adding that the teachers should share their knowledge with other coaching teachers in Sabah to help them understand the game better and improve their coaching methods.
“This is to support and align with the needs of Sabah FA’s age group futsal competitions in the near future. I’m thankful for the AFC's and the Football Association of Malaysia’s support of the Sabah FA’s coaching courses.”
Ali Targholizade, Director of AFC Futsal and Beach Soccer Development, noted that Sabah FA is one of the most active Malaysian states in futsal development and that he was glad to see the state’s initiative to organise age group competitions next year in order to produce talented youth players for Sabah and Malaysia.
AFC Futsal Instructor Chiew Chun Yong from Malaysia said the course is the second Level 1 course in Sabah.
“Coaches that attended the previous Level 1 course have brought about a positive growth in Sabah Futsal and improved their teams,” he remarked.
