Kuala Lumpur: The fifth edition of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ is set to kick off in Uzbekistan on June 1 as 16 teams from across the continent converge on Tashkent and Qarshi with some of the hottest prospects in Asian football set to be on show.

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's head coach Herve Renard has signed a new five-year deal after guiding the team to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, football officials announced on Friday.

Sydney: Ajdin Hrustic, fresh from winning the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt, and ex-Celtic star Tom Rogic spearhead Australia's squad named on Saturday for the crunch AFC Asian Qualifiers Road to Qatar Playoff against the United Arab Emirates.

The Socceroos' bid to directly make a fifth straight FIFA World Cup ended with defeats to Japan and Saudi Arabia in March.

It thrust them into the Asian Playoff against the UAE in Doha on June 7, with the winners then facing Peru a week later to book their spot at the Finals in Qatar this year.
