Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Men Referees and Assistant Referees Course 2016 (Group One) came to a close on Tuesday in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
Group One, consisting of officials from the East and ASEAN regions of Asia, was the first in a series of four courses for AFC men officials.
Altogether, there will be two courses to be conducted in Kuala Lumpur and another two in Dubai, the UAE. The Group One course officially kicked off the AFC Refereeing Seminar 2016.
Nineteen referees and 35 assistant referees participated in the five-day course which started on 27 November. FIFA/AFC Instructors Shamsul Mydin, Ishiyama Noboru and John Chia managed the technical aspects of the programme while Ganesan Maniam and Khalidi Supian handled its fitness components.
Shamsul said: “Every year we have new challenges. We believe you have the capability to achieve the goals for 2016. You’ve already proven this during the years and we do hope you will continue these very high performances in the next season.
“We also believe that one day our dream will come true, which is to see one of our AFC referee teams officiating a World Cup final. It can be any one of you in AFC, it can be yourself.”
Shamsul also gave special thanks to former Director of the AFC Referees Department, Yoshimi Ogawa, for initiating the training programmes and laying out the road map towards achieving very high standards that AFC match officials are at.
The Men Referees and Assistant Referees Course is part of the AFC Refereeing Seminar 2016 which caters for all categories of AFC refereeing officials’ training and educational needs, covering men and women referees and assistant referees, including those for futsal and beach soccer.
The seminar also includes courses for instructors and assessors. Part One of the seminar will be concluded end of December while Part Two will commence in February 2016.
