Stockholm: AFC gained useful important insights into women’s football development after taking part in a UEFA KISS Women’s Football Development Workshop 2013 in the Swedish capital which closed on Sunday.
The workshop was held from July 26 in Stockholm, venue of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 final, between Germany and Norway where Germany emerged the champions.
The workshop, part of UEFA's KISS (Knowledge and Information Sharing Scenario) programme, focused on growing the game, competitions-driven development and promoting the women’s game.
“The interactive sessions and examples presented had allowed AFC to get an insight into the challenges and successes of European countries and that indeed there are similar situations in Asian countries in many areas, some of which are overcoming cultural barriers, recruitment and retention, league and club development,” AFC Head of Women’s Football Development Julie Teo who attended the workshop told The-AFC.com.
AFC's member association Football Federation of Australia shared on the marketing of the W-League, which is the first women's football project under AFC's Kick Off development programme.
Azerbaijan presented on overcoming cultural barriers while German FA, Swedish League and Estonian FA presented on league and club development among other topics.
“Many ideas on women's football development were exchanged during the workshop which broadens our scope even as we implement our own Women's Assistance Programme (WAP) in our MAs,” Teo said further.
“AFC's involvement in this is in line with the MoU and ongoing cooperation between AFC and UEFA where both parties can share knowledge of women's football in Asia and Europe which will mutually benefit us.”
