Kuala Lumpur: Ufuk Talay began his reign as Sydney FC head coach with an impressive 5-1 victory against Adelaide United in Australia on Saturday with Joe Lolley and Jaiden Kucharski both scoring twice in the Sky Blues’ first win of the season.

Argentine striker Felipe Cadenazzi followed up his hat-trick against Persik Kediri with a double against Bali United on Sunday as Borneo FC improved their lead to six points in Indonesia while second-placed Persib Bandung dropped points against rivals Arema FC.

Round 1: Indonesia power through

Bandar Seri Begawan: Indonesia continued from where they had left off to beat Brunei Darussalam 6-0 in the second leg of their FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 tie on Monday.

Indonesia won 12-0 on aggregate as they advanced to Group F of Round 2, with Iraq, Vietnam and Philippines for company.

Shin targets improvement despite big victory

Jakarta: Indonesia will take a 6-0 lead into the second leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ tie against Brunei Darussalam but Shin Tae-yong wasn’t fully impressed.

After racing to a two-goal lead in the opening 12 minutes, Indonesia were forced to wait until the 58th minute before getting their third, and head coach Shin saw this as one improvement his side need.

Jakarta: Indonesia cruised to a 6-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday.

Early goals from Dimas Drajad and Rizky Ridho had the hosts 2-0 up at half-time before substitute Ramadhan Sananta added a brace after the restart.

Dimas netted his second with a little under 20 minutes to play and his hat-trick in stoppage time to wrap up a comfortable night for the Indonesians.

Qualifiers - Group F: Kuwait defeat Bahrain to cap perfect campaign

Manama: Kuwait capped a perfect AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 Qualifiers campaign, claiming their third win on the trot with a 5-3 victory against Bahrain in their final Group F match on Wednesday.

In an earlier match, Timor-Leste picked themselves up from two earlier defeats to end the Qualifiers on a positive note by defeating Brunei Darussalam 8-0.

Qualifiers - Group F: Kuwait, Bahrain go through

Manama: Kuwait and Bahrain secured their places in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 after both achieved wins in Group F of the Qualifiers on Monday.

Kuwait defeated Timor-Leste 8-1 and Bahrain beat Brunei Darussalam 6-1, giving both teams maximum points after two matches and in doing so, booking their spots in the Finals with one game to spare.

Manama: Kuwait came from behind to defeat Brunei Darussalam 4-2 in Group F of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 Qualifiers on Saturday.

Hosts Bahrain, meanwhile, were made to toil before securing a 1-0 win over Timor-Leste in the group's second match.

Zarqa City: Jordan clinched top spot in Group A of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Qatar 2024 Qualifiers after defeating Syria 2-0 at the Prince Mohammad Stadium on Tuesday.

Jordan waltzed into the Finals with a perfect record of three wins, scoring 12 goals and conceding none.

Vietnam shine; victories for Kyrgyz Republic and Hong Kong, China

Kuala Lumpur: Vietnam showed what they can do under Philippe Troussier in claiming a 2-0 win over Palestine in an international friendly played on Monday.

Hong Kong, China put 10 past Brunei Darussalam in front of their own fans while Kyrgyz Republic produced a stunning 3-1 comeback win over Kuwait.

Myanmar and Cambodia were also involved as Asian teams continued their preparations for the Preliminary Joint Qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

Qualifiers - Group A: Brunei Darussalam 0-11 Syria; Oman 0-1 Jordan

Zarqa City: Jordan closed in on a place in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Qatar 2024 after edging Oman 1-0 in Group A of the Qualifiers on Saturday.  

The win took Jordan to six points and they will confirm their place in the Finals by avoiding defeat against Syria, who revived their hopes by beating Brunei Darussalam 11-0, when the two teams meet on Tuesday.

Zarqa City: Jordan flexed their muscles in a 9-0 win over Brunei Darussalam in Group A of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Qatar 2024 Qualifiers on Wednesday.

Oman also got off to a winning start, defeating Syria 2-0 in the earlier match.

Kuala Lumpur: Cong An Hanoi secured a historic league crown by the narrowest of margins on their first season back in Vietnam’s top flight after a 1-1 draw with Thanh Hoa on the final day helped them finish ahead of 2022 winners and crosstown rivals Hanoi FC on goal difference.
