Kuala Lumpur: Eight teams will be vying to reach the AFC Champions League Playoff Stage on Tuesday when the competition’s Preliminary Stage 2 matches kick-off.
Here’s a look at the teams taking part.
SHANDONG LUNENG FC (CHN) v MOHUN BAGAN (IND)
With four league titles in their trophy cabinet, Shandong Luneng are the third-most successful club in Chinese football but are still waiting to make a real impact in the AFC Champions League. Apart from reaching the quarter-finals in 2005, they have failed to make it out of the group stage in their other six appearances, including in the past two seasons. If they are to rectify that in 2016, they will have to first make it past two stages of qualifying, after only sealing their berth in the competition as the third-placed team in last year’s Chinese Super League.
