Group C: Al Duhail edge Esteghlal in AFC Champions League thriller

Jeddah: A scintillating display of attacking talent at King Abdullah Sport City Stadium saw seven goals scored as Qatar’s Al Duhail SC emerged 4-3 winners over Islamic Republic of Iran’s Esteghlal FC on Matchday Three of the 2021 AFC Champions League Group C on Wednesday.

Both sides went into the Matchday Three encounter hopeful of extending an unbeaten record, with Al Duhail having collected four points from their opening two games and Esteghlal having earned the full six points.

Jeddah: Al Duhail SC head coach Sabri Lamouchi praised Kenyan forward Michael Olunga whose hat-trick steered the Qatari side to an exciting 4-3 win against Islamic Republic of Iran’s Esteghlal FC in the 2021 AFC Champions League on Wednesday.

Man-of-the-match Olunga struck in the 10th, 27th and 85th minutes in an absorbing Group C tie which saw both sides exchanging leads at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

It was a crucial win for Al Duhail as the win meant they leapfrogged Esteghlal into top spot on seven points, one ahead of the Iranians at the midway stage.

Sticking to game plan led AGMK to historic AFC Champions League win, reveals Kasimov

Riyadh: AGMK FC head coach Mirdjalal Kasimov said it was the team’s collective effort in sticking to the game plan which led the Uzbek club to their fantastic 2-1 victory over Shabab Al Ahli Dubai in the 2021 AFC Champions League on Wednesday. 

Shabab Al Ahli took the lead through Ahmed Alhashmi in the 28th minute, but late goals by Jovan Dokic and Akramjon Komilov secured AGMK their first-ever win in the AFC Champions League group stage, as well as placed them back in the running for a place in the Round of 16.

The win took AGMK to four points, level with Tajikistan's FC Istiklol in Group D and three behind leaders Al Hilal SFC of Saudi Arabia.
