Jeonju: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors stretched their lead at the top of the K League Classic standings to eight points on Sunday thanks to a comprehensive 3-0 win over Pohang Steelers.
After seeing nearest title rivals FC Seoul and Ulsan Hyundai share the spoils in a 1-1 draw some 24 hours earlier, Jeonbuk were eager to ram home their advantage at the summit and they duly grabbed an early opener when Brazilian import Leonardo (pictured above in AFC Champions League action) netted his seventh goal of the season after 16 minutes.
Korea Republic midfielder Kim Bo-kyung doubled his side’s advantage four minutes into the second half, before sealing all three points with his second of the game on 55 minutes.
Jeonbuk are next in action on Wednesday when they are scheduled to face Bucheon 1995 in the quarter-finals of the Korean FA Cup.
Jeonbuk and second-placed FC Seoul both face Chinese opposition in the quarter-finals of the 2016 AFC Champions League, with 2006 winners Jeonbuk facing Shanghai SIPG and FC Seoul taking on Shandong Luneng, who they defeated 4-1 in Jinan in the Group Stage.
