Jun Amano ready to lead Ulsan’s comeback march

Johor Bahru: Ulsan Hyundai’s Jun Amano has rallied his teammates to extend their AFC Champions League™ 2022 unbeaten streak after the Horangi registered back-to-back victories over Group I rivals Guangzhou FC with Sunday’s 5-0 triumph their most dominant performance in the competition so far. 

Head coach Hong Myung-bo had called for a more clinical performance and just when it seemed the Horangi were unable to exert their authority before the break, Amano was cast in the second half to unlock the stubborn Guangzhou defence. 

And the 30-year-old duly delivered with his creative vision and incisive passing to keep third- placed Ulsan firmly in the race for a Round of 16 berth, with just one point separating them from Johor Darul Ta’zim and leaders Kawasaki Frontale.

Buriram: Daegu FC head coach Alexandre Gama was proud of his side’s dedication in holding off an aggressive Urawa Red Diamonds in their AFC Champions League™ Group F tie on Sunday. 

Urawa were bent on avenging their 1-0 defeat on Matchday Three, and had a bright start in the rematch, but Daegu weathered the storm well to secure a hard-fought point from the goalless encounter at the Buriram City Stadium.

Red-hot Ikhsan rues missed hat-trick after firing BG Pathum United clear on top

Pathum Thani: In-form striker Ikhsan Fandi revealed his slight regret at missing out on what would have been a historic hat-trick in BG Pathum United’s 3-1 AFC Champions League™ 2022 win over United City FC on Sunday.

The 22-year-old striker earned Player of the Match honours for his two-goal performance, which sent the Thai League outfit two points clear on top of Group G, with a win against Melbourne City on Wednesday now enough to guarantee their place in the Round of 16.
 
It was an impressive showing from Ikhsan, who showed the power and lethal finishing that has seen him score 11 goals for club and country since the start of March, but he couldn’t help but find himself wanting more after netting his goals before half-time.
