Tashkent: Ahead of their make or break tie against Baniyas next week in ACL Group B fixtures, Pakhtakor recorded an important but less than impressive 1-0 victory over Andijan to temporarily sit at the top of the Uzbek Professional League.
In the 6th round match played on Sunday, Igor Krimets fired home the solitary winner in the 27th minute as the defending champions moved to the top of the table for the first time in the season.
However, fellow ACL rivals Bunyodkor and Nasaf can leapfrog the Tashkent giants as they are playing on Monday night. Bunyodkor travel to Buxoro and Nasaf will be at home against Qizilqum.
The 2003 and 2004 semifinalists currently lie at the third place of Group B – one point less than second-placed Baniyas of UAE who will host the Uzbeks next Wednesday at Bani Yas Club Stadium. Only a win in UAE could seal Pakhtakor’s passage to the knockout stages.
