Johor Bahru: Head coach Hong Myung-bo remains upbeat despite Ulsan Hyundai’s unconvincing start to this year’s AFC Champions League™ and believes that Thursday’s Group I battle against bottom-club Guangzhou FC at the Tan Sri Dato' Hj Hassan Yunos Stadium will serve as the pivotal turning point to reverse his side’s fortunes. 

The 2020 and 2012 champions currently occupy third in the standings, with the 1-1 opening day draw against Kawasaki Frontale their only point on the board and following their Match Day Two defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim, the Horangi face the daunting prospect of failing to qualify for the Round of 16 for the first time since 2017.

Kim lifted by Jeonbuk resurgence, Muscat rues missed opportunity

Ho Chi Minh: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors head coach Kim Sang-sik was in a buoyant mood after his side edged Yokohama F. Marinos 1-0 in their AFC Champions League™ 2022 Group H match on Tuesday.

Having opened their campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw with Sydney FC, Kim was glad to see his players deliver against their Japanese opponents.

With Sydney FC and and host club Hoang Anh Gia Lai having played to a 1-1 draw, Jeonbuk top the standings with four points.

Ho Chi Minh: Sydney FC head coach Steve Corica did not hide his disappointment following his side's 1-1 draw with Hoang Anh Gia Lai in Group H of the AFC Champions League™ 2022 on Tuesday.

Although the Vietnamese side had opened the scoring through Vu Van Thanh's strike from distance in the 26th minute, Sydney had more than their fair share of chances to win the match.

In the end, substitute Trent Buhagiar's header moments after coming on was all Sydney had to show for their efforts and Corica admitted his disappointment, with the Australian side having opened their campaign with a goalless draw with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Buriram: Head coach Miguel Angel Lotina feels there are still aspects his Vissel Kobe side need to improve despite their AFC Champions League™ 2022 Group J opening match 2-1 win over Hong Kong outfit Kitchee SC on Tuesday. 

Vissel opened the scoring on the 15-minute mark through Yuta Goke and then doubled their lead when Shion Inoue struck with five minutes remaining before having to survive a late scare after Alex Akande netted for Kitchee in added time.

Riyadh: Head coach Ramon Diaz has dedicated Al Hilal SFC’s qualification into the AFC Champions League™ 2022 Round of 16 to the club's passionate fans.

The defending champions produced a classy display in their 3-0 Group A win over Tajikistan’s Istiklol on Tuesday, earning the three points which sealed their passage into the Round of 16.

Al Hilal are currently on their longest ever winning streak in the AFC Champions League, having been victorious in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season's title triumph.

Brahimi happy with resolute Al Rayyan performance

Riyadh: Al Rayyan captain Yacine Brahimi said collective mentality took them past Sharjah in their win 3-1 in Group A of the AFC Champions League™ 2022 on Tuesday. 

Al Rayyan’s early advantage, an own goal, was cancelled out by Sharjah forward Caio Lucas but the Qatari club turned on the power with strikes from Steven N’zonzi and Brahimi to seal the three points.

Al Rayyan’s victory at the King Fahd International Stadium was their first AFC Champions League win over a UAE club since their 2017 triumph against Al Wahda FSC.
