ACL 2019 Round of 16 Second Leg – West: Toyota Player of the Week
Kuala Lumpur: Romarinho has been named as the Toyota Player of the Week after the striker scored twice in Al Ittihad’s 4-3 victory over Zobahan on Monday to help his side advance to their first AFC Champions League quarter-finals since 2014 following a 6-4 aggregate win.
With Al Ittihad already 2-1 up, the Brazilian showed a goalscorer’s instinct to tuck home from close in on 64 minutes to effectively kill the tie off, before he added his brace six minutes later by finishing off a neat team move.
The 28-year-old’s goals came from four shots and three on target, while his passing accuracy was just under 85 percent as he earned a rating of 8.9.
Romarinho, who will return to the quarter-finals for the first time since reaching the last eight with Qatar’s El Jaish in 2016, now has five goals to his name in the 2019 AFC Champions League.
Riyadh: Al Hilal SFC rounded off the eight teams in the 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-finals despite suffering a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Al Ahli Saudi FC in the second leg of the Round of 16 on Tuesday. A 4-3 aggregate score means Al Hilal are set to face arch-rivals Al Ittihad in the next round.
Bringing to an end a five-match winless run in the AFC Champions League knock-out stage was a must if Al Ahli were to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2013.
Furthermore, it needed to come with a three-goal difference to overturn the 4-2 defeat from the home first leg.
Doha: An action-packed encounter at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium saw Al Sadd SC qualify for the 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over rivals Al Duhail SC, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory on Tuesday.
Only one of the two Qatari sides could make it back-to-back AFC Champions League quarter-finals, and Al Sadd had the relative advantage going into the Tuesday fixture, having scored an away goal in the 1-1 draw at Al Duhail’s ground last week.
They will face Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr in the quarter-finals, scheduled for August 26 and September 16.
Abu Dhabi: Al Nassr walked away with the quarter-final ticket at the expense of Al Wahda after a thrilling 3-2 victory in the second leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League Round of 16 gave them a 4-3 aggregate win on Monday.
Al Nassr's win means they will face Qatar's Al Duhail SC or Al Sadd SC in the quarter-finals, which will be played on August 26 and September 16.
Doha: Fans at Grand Hamad Stadium were treated to a fine display of attacking football as Al Ittihad and Zobahan played out a seven-goal thriller with the Saudis emerging 4-3 winners in the second leg of their 2019 AFC Champions League Round of 16 encounter to guarantee themselves a place in the quarter-finals.
Having won the first leg 2-1, the two-time continental champions advanced with a 6-4 aggregate score and have set up an all-Saudi quarter-final clash with one of their arch-rivals Al Hilal or Al Ahli. The two sides face-off in Riyadh on Tuesday.
