Stage set for 2020 AFC Champions League (East) in Doha
Doha: The exciting race to join Islamic Republic of Iran’s Persepolis FC in the 2020 AFC Champions League final on December 19 will kick-off on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar as Asia’s top clubs from the East Zone restart their eagerly anticipated Group Stage campaigns.
Similar to the AFC Champions League (West), which was successfully staged last month, players and officials will be placed under strict health regulations and measures as a precaution against the COVID-19 pandemic.
2020 AFC Champions League (East) – How it stands: Group E
Doha: There's a three-way tie at the top in the early stages of Group E, while Thai champions Chiangrai United have some work to do after two defeats from two games.
In the only group that has seen all four teams play at least one match, things are intriguingly poised, with three sides: FC Seoul of Korea Republic, Beijing FC of China PR and Australia's Melbourne Victory all on three points.
The A-League side have, however, played a game more, while Thailand's Chiangrai United have lost both of their matches so far in their debut campaign.
2020 AFC Champions League (East) – How it stands: Group F
Doha: The 2020 AFC Champions League (East) will resume on Wednesday with Australia's Perth Glory facing China PR's Shanghai Shenhua, while K League 1 runners-up Ulsan Hyundai and Japan's FC Tokyo will be in action on November 21 and 24 respectively
Only FC Tokyo have completed two rounds of matches so far and it's the Japanese capital city side who sit top of the group with four points, while Ulsan are second with one point. Perth Glory lost to FC Tokyo in their only tie to date, while Shanghai Shenhua are yet to play.
