Super-sub Abdul Kadhim lifts Air Force Club’s hopes

Riyadh: Match winner Shareef Abdul Kadhim is confident Air Force Club of Iraq can reach the AFC Champions League™ 2022 knockout stage following their 3-2 victory over UAE’s Al Jazira in Group B on Friday.

The game was headed for a draw after Al Jazira came back from two goals down to level the tie. Air Force Club, however, had the final say when substitute Abdul Kadhim struck a last-gasp winner to seal the win.

Victory at the King Fahd International Stadium means Air Force Club climbed up to second in the standings with seven points ahead, three ahead of Al Jazira and India’s Mumbai City, who fell to a 6-0 defeat to Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh: Iraq’s Air Force Club repeated their victory against Al Jazira, beating the Emirati side 3-2 on Matchday Five of the AFC Champions League™ 2022 Group B at King Fahd International Stadium on Friday.

Having opened their campaign with a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture two weeks earlier, the Iraqi side came racing out of the blocks and within six minutes had already taken the lead.

Riyadh: Al Shabab cruised to the AFC Champions League™ 2022 Round of 16 with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Mumbai City on Matchday Five of Group B at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium on Friday.

The Saudi side dominated throughout, but it was Mumbai City who looked set to score first when Al Shabab defender Ahmed Sharahili was dispossessed deep inside his own half and Raynier Fernandes fired an effort from the edge of the area that was saved by goalkeeper Fawaz Al Qarni who needed to make a second heroic save to deny Lalengmawia Ralte who pounced on the rebound from six yards out.
