Sydney’s rising stars impress Talay

Sydney: Head coach Ufuk Talay beamed with pride after his experimental Sydney FC side defeated Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines 3-1 in the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 on Thursday.

Emerging talents Adrian Segecic, Patrick Wood and Jaiden Kucharski etched their name on the scoreboard with a goal each to seal second spot for Sydney in Group E with 12 points.

Talay emphasised the significance of giving young players the stage to demonstrate their potential.

Uthai thrilled as Muangthong achieve target

Bangkok: It was an evening to remember for Uthai Bunmo and his charges as Muangthong United secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to confirm their spot in the knockout stage of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25.

The decisive moment came late in the first half, with Muangthong’s relentless attacks finally breaking through Jeonbuk’s defence, which proved enough for the Thai side to secure second spot in Group H.

Kuala Lumpur: The lineup for the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 Round of 16 was finalised following the conclusion of the group stage on Thursday.

The 16 teams will now cast their eyes on the knockout stage draw which will be held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 12.

Singapore: Song Ui-young starred with a hat-trick as Lion City Sailors defeated Port FC of Thailand 5-2 to clinch top spot in Group F of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Thursday.

The Singaporean side finished level on 10 points with Port but topped the group on superior goal difference and having also beaten the Thai side 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Soreang: China PR’s Zhejiang FC saw their AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 campaign come to an end despite beating Persib Bandung of Indonesia 4-3 in their final Group F match on Thursday.

The win took Jordi Vinyals’ side to nine points but it wasn’t enough to overtake Singapore’s Lion City Sailors FC, who defeated Thailand’s Port FC 5-2 in the other match to advance to the knockout stage as group winners.

Bangkok: Thailand’s Muangthong United handed Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors a 1-0 defeat in Bangkok on Thursday to guarantee a place in the last 16 of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 as runners-up in Group H behind the club from Korea Republic.

Purchat Thodsanid scored a minute into time added on at the end of the first half to earn Bunmo Uthai’s side the win needed to take the runners-up spot in the standings and join Jeonbuk in next week’s draw for the knockout rounds.

Victory moves the Thai League 1 side onto 11 points from their six games and keeps them one clear of Malaysia’s Selangor, who kept the pressure on their fellow Southeast Asians with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu in Manila.

Manila: Malaysia’s Selangor FC turned on the power to beat Dynamic Herb Cebu FC of Philippines 4-0 in their AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 Group H match on Thursday.

Victory, however, was in vain as it wasn’t enough to take the Red Giants through to the knockout stage as Muangthong United defeated Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC 1-0 in the other game to finish a point ahead of Selangor to claim second spot and a place in the Round of 16.

Group E - MD6: Sanfrecce Hiroshima (JPN) 4-1 Eastern (HKG)

Hiroshima: Sanfrecce Hiroshima closed out their Group A campaign in the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 with a 4-1 win over Eastern on Thursday as Michael Skibbe’s side came back from going a goal down to defeat the Hong Kong Premier League side.

Ng Yu Hei put the visitors in front with a fine individual goal in the 10th minute and it took 26 minutes for Hiroshima to pull level through Takaaki Shichi.

But Sanfrecce pulled clear in the second half, Goncalo Paciencia putting the hosts in front in the 53rd minute with Yotaro Nakajima adding the third four minutes later and Pieros Sotiriou hitting his side’s fourth with 17 minutes remaining.
