Shah Alam: AFC Cup debutants Felda United earned their first-ever point of the continental competition after a 1-1 draw with Hanoi FC in Group G, although they will be ruing the late leveler that saw them miss out on all three points on offer.
Midfielder Zah Rahan Krangar had opened the scoring for the hosts in stunning fashion on 23 minutes as he lofted the ball over stranded goalkeeper Phi Minh Long from midway inside the Hanoi FC half.
But the Vietnamese side responded and found the equaliser deep into injury time as Do Hung Dung curled home an equally fine finish from the left of the penalty area via the inside of the far post to earn a share of the spoils.
In the West and ASEAN Zones, each group winner and the best second-placed club among the three groups (total four teams) will qualify for the zonal semi-finals. A West Zone final will be held to determine the region’s representative for the AFC Cup final. There will also be inter-zone play-offs between the champions of the ASEAN, Central, South and East Zones. The winner of the inter-zone play-offs will then take on the West Zone representative in the final of the AFC Cup.
